Location: cSpace King Edward - #205, 1721 29 Ave SW
Duration: Weekend Workshop
Session/Year: Fall, 2017
Participants: Maximum class size 10
Instructor: Caroline Forde

Join fibre artist and surface designer Caroline Forde on her return to Calgary.  She’ll be joining us in the studio rejuvenated from her Iceland textile residency and travels.  This course is for beginner and intermediate dyers; we’ll be adding to our dye journals and exploring a new range of reds and yellows. You’ll investigate the natural dye pot from dye extraction and fabric preparation to dyeing and you will explore the possibilities of this process by brightening your fabrics using mordants and over dyeing using resists.

Deepen your natural dyeing experience by further exploration and delving into the natural indigo vat. Gain a better understanding of the process of working with this complex dye and its endless shades of blue.  Continue your exploration in indigo and natural dyeing through Shibori, a Japanese resist dyeing technique.

You will take home new skills and various fabric samples of cotton, linen, wool and silk. For the keen knitters Caroline will be sharing a selection of beautiful Icelandic wools which we will be vat dyeing in class.
