Join me in the studio for a weekend of intensive pattern play. In this workshop you will expand your knowledge of screen printed textiles in an intimate class of two to four students, and team print with a studio mate to produce your own micro collection.

With hands on demonstrations and problem solving throughout the course, you will print two meters of organic cotton/linen and work through the steps from developing a repeating pattern to silkscreen preparation, colour mixing, screen printing registration, and finally printing.

At the end of this course you will have a better understanding of the process and materials for silkscreen printing on cloth and take home your own micro textile collection for future projects.

AT A GLANCE

Session 1 – Intro to Textile Printing and repeat pattern development
You will begin developing two to three repeat patterns for print that consider an end use and work
together as a micro collection. We will also prepare screens for printing.

Session 2 –  Intro to water based inks and silk screen prep, Team Printing
Our focus in this class will be on colour mixing, putting artwork onto screens and registration to create repeating patterns.  We will discuss various pigment systems and the additives that can be used which affect the hand of the finished print, viscosity of the inks and fixatives for longer lasting colour. Furthermore, participants will work together as a team and print samples while fine tune their printing technique.  You will learn about registration for repeat pattern printing.

Session 3  – Team Printing
The last day is spent printing two meters of fabric in multiple colourways for your final micro collection.

Note: With the weekend intensive we explore mark making and apply the outcomes of that directly to transparency in order to create our patterns for printing. The approach is more direct.  Weekend intensives are ideal for those coming from out of town.

Have a question? Leave us a note and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
